How to restore an old photo
- Upload your photo. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB into the box above, or pick a sample. On this device, nothing is uploaded.
- Choose Restore. Choose Restore to ease fading, yellowing and light wear on a scanned print.
- Compare and download. Drag the before/after slider, check the result at 100%, then download it free with no watermark.
What it helps
- A yellow or brown cast on a scanned print
- Faded contrast that hides a face in the midtones
- Slight softness from the scan
What it will not do
- Torn paper, missing corners, and stains are not filled with a generated scene
- Faces are not rebuilt. A blurry ancestor stays blurry in identity, even if contrast improves
- This is not a substitute for a careful human retoucher on a treasured portrait
Settings
Restore stretches the tonal range, cools a warm cast slightly, then sharpens mildly.
Fidelity increases the sharpen. Keep it modest for portraits.
On this device and in the cloud
On-device restore never uploads the family photo. That is the right default for pictures of people.
Cloud restore costs 2 credits. It uses Real-ESRGAN with face reconstruction off. It does not fill tears and it does not run GFPGAN.
Free on this device. Two credits if you run it in the cloud.
